Light is a stimulus that is encoded by the retina, situated at the back of the eye.

Encoded messages (stating the position of the light source, its intensity, colour etc…) are passed to the brain via the optic nerve. Inside the brain, these messages arrive at the visual occipital lobe where they are interpreted and perceived.
